CJP Founder Abhijit Dipke Gets Conditional Bail After Fresh Detention in Delhi

17 Oct 2026 · Legal News · By LawQuorum

Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has been granted conditional bail by a Special Executive Magistrate in Delhi. He has been asked to sign a bond before his release.

The detention came after Delhi Police picked him up on October 16, ahead of planned protests in the national capital linked to the demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. According to the police, Dipke had been served notices directing him not to visit Central Park in Connaught Place, and he allegedly failed to comply. The preventive action was taken under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deal with proceedings to secure bonds for maintaining peace and preventive arrests to avert cognisable offences.

This was not the first detention for the CJP founder. On October 10, he was detained along with party co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka ahead of a planned demonstration against the Election Commission. The three were later released by an Executive Magistrate after furnishing bonds of ₹50,000 each and undertaking to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year.

The latest detention has renewed attention on the circumstances surrounding the proposed protests and police action against organisers. CJP representatives have questioned the legality of the detention, alleging that Dipke was taken away without adequate information about his whereabouts and that access to legal counsel was restricted. The party had planned demonstrations involving the national flag and demands concerning alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Delhi Police has maintained that its preventive measures were intended to avert a breach of peace. Dipke's release is expected to follow completion of the bond formalities ordered by the magistrate.
