Madras High Court Clears RSS Route Marches at 128 Locations in Tamil Nadu

16 Oct 2026 · Legal News · By LawQuorum

The Madras High Court has permitted the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hold route marches at 128 locations across Tamil Nadu on October 25 and November 1.

Justice V Lakshminarayanan took exception to the State Police repeatedly refusing permission on grounds that courts had already rejected. The judge said the police had not offered any new reasons for turning down the requests. "They have not come up with any novel reasons for rejection. They have consistently given the very reasons which this Court found as lame," the Court observed.

The High Court directed the police to finalise the timings, routes and venues for the proposed route marches and the public meetings that will accompany them by Monday, October 19.

The order comes amid repeated disputes over permission for RSS route marches in the State, with the organisation approaching the courts after the police denied approval. The latest direction requires the authorities to settle the logistical arrangements within the deadline, clearing the way for the marches at the 128 proposed locations on the two dates.
